Unlucky Nick Kyrgios now looks a question mark for Wimbledon after pulling out of the ATP Halle event on Monday with his problem right knee.
Last summer’s Wimbledon finalist came to the All England Club on the back of semi-final in both Stuttgart and Halle and riding a wave of form.
But this season has been a bust for the 28-year-old Australian who has played just one match – a first-round loss last week in Stuttgart – since October.
After losing at the Boss event on Tuesday of last week, Kyrgios and his team travelled north to Halle and put the knee to the test – unsuccessfully.
“We tried everything with the knee,” he said on Monday. “I wanted to show the same level of performance that I had last year.
“But it’s just not possible.”
Kyrgios now has a fortnight to find some kind of fitness, with Wimbledon starting on July 3. he underwent surgery on the knee in January after withdrawing from the Australian Open a day before his first-round match.
