With all fans at the US Open allegedly recipients of at least one COVID vaccination jab, Victoria Azarenka wonders why so many players are not,

The two-time Australian Open winner posed the question after reaching the third round of the US Open on Wednesday to set up a match with fellow major champion Garbine Muguruza.

“It’s a bit bizarre that fans have to be vaccinated and players are not. In my opinion, it’s inevitable that it will be mandated at some point, like other leagues are doing,” she said.

“I don’t see the point of stalling it, really; we all want to be safe, we all want to continue doing our jobs.

“I know there’s a lot of discussions about it,” said the US-based mother of toddler son Leo.

.”I respect everybody’s opinion as long as it’s not a conspiracy theory. If you have looked into research and have your facts and stats, that’s a different conversation.

“But I feel that that part of conversation that you really need to be knowledgeable to what you’re saying is missing in a lot of players.

“We need to start this (vaccine) conversation, because as I said, in my opinion it’s just inevitable.”
