Second seed Pablo Carreno Busta will take on Serb Filip Krajinovic in Sunday’s final at the Hamburg Open after both produced straight-set wins.
The Spaniard defeated Argentine Federico Delbonis in a Latin clash 7-6(2), 6-3 while Krajinovic won an all-Serb shootout over countryman Laslo Djere 6-4, 6-2.
PCB, winner of two clay titles among the five of his career, salvaged four break points in a semi-final success lasting nearly two hours.
“It was a tough match, but I’m very happy; Federico is a really tough player,” the winner who also took the clay honors in Marbella three months ago, said.
“When we play I’m very uncomfortable, but my level today was very good.
“Tomorrow is my most important match this year [tomorrow]. I need to be really focused until the end again.”
Krajinovic, seeded sixth, gained momentum from his quarter-final upset of top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Serb will be stalking a career trophy breakthrough after losing finals at the 2017 Paris Masters and Stockholm and Hungary in 2019.
Krajinovic played a near-flawless match with just seven unforced errors in 95 minutes.
