The list of absentees from the Paris Olympic tournament has increased after Holger Rune withdrew with a wrist injury.
The world No. 16 Dane’s absence leaves his country high and dry for the Games tennis event which begins on Saturday at Roland Garros.
Rune quit a Hamburg quarter-final last week with injury, pulling out against Arthur Fils.
“I am really sorry that I will be unable to play the Olympics,” the 21-year-old posted on social.
“I’ve played with pain in my wrist throughout both the clay and grass season, so I have to take the medical recommendations seriously.”
Rune joins ATP No. 1 Jannik Sinner on the sidelines after the Italian pulled out this week with tonsillitis.
Also missing through injury is former Wimbledon winner Marketa Vondrousova.
