Paolini powers past Osaka in Miami

Jasmine Paolini survived a nine-minute opening game, saving five break points on the way to a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 defeat of Naomi Osaka to reach the fourth round at the Miami Masters on Monday.

Italy’s Roland Garros and Wimbledon runner-up last season has now reached a tournament last 16 in four of four 2025 occasions: Doha, Dubai and Indian Wells plus Miami.

The WTA No. 7 spent two and a quarter hours in salvaging 12 of 15 break points while breaking former No. 1 Osaka three times.

Paolini advanced with 28 winners, outweighed by 39 unforced errors – two less than her opponent.
