One win streak to end as Swiatek faces Krejcikova

One win streak will die a death on Sunday as Iga Swiatek and Barbora Krejicova put their competing record on the line in the final of the WTA event in Ostrava.

The Czech outing will determine superiority, with world No. 1 Swiatek coming into the title match having won her last 10 contests.

2021 Roland Garros winner Krejickova has not been defeated in her last eight dating to the US Open second round on August 31.

Swiatek earned a place in her eighth final this season by defeating Ekaterina Alexandrova, 7-6(5), 2-6, 6-4 after more than two and a half hours

The Pole now owns 60 victories in 2022 and is the first to hit that milestone since Caroline Wozniacki finished 2017 with 60.

Swiatek is formidable in finals, standing 10-1 when it counted.

Czech Krejcikova will have the fans on her side in the final, which she reached with a 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-4 win over Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan, who lost despite striking nearly 40 winners.

Swiatek has the edge in the series, beating Krejickova twice already this season.

“It’s amazing what I’ve achieved in the last two weeks, so I feel really happy and really glad with the way I’m performing so far,” Krejcikova said.

“I’m really looking forward to playing the final in front of the Czech fans.”
