Queen’s club weekend finalist Cam Norrie on Monday pulled out of the final Wimbledon run-up event at Eastbourne, citing exhaustion.

The runner-up on Sunday in singles to Matteo Berrettini, was also involved in doubles, losing in the semi-finals.

After playing all week and earning the rare home final, in west London, the No. 34 said he needs to recover with a week to go before Wimbledon begins.

“I’m sorry to say I won’t be able to play in Eastbourne this year. I had an incredible week at Queen’s in singles and doubles – and the support from the British public was fantastic,” he said.

“But now my body needs more time to recover so that I can be fully fit for Wimbledon. I hope to play in Eastbourne in the future.”

Norrie had been seeded ninth and was to have faced Australian Alexei Popyrin in the first round on the English south coast.
