No worries for Djokovic after Adelaide injury scare

Novak Djokovic on Saturday brushed off an injury timeout during his 6-3, 6-4 defeat of Daniil Medvedev to reach his 131st career final through success in Adelaide.

The top seed took a medical time out for treatment on his right leg after the seventh game of the first set, but returned to the court at Memorial Drive as if nothing had happened.

“It was nothing serious. If it was,  I could have not continued,” the 2007 champion here said.

“I got some anti-inflammatories; as the match went on my hamstring became warmer and bothered me less.”

The match was played on the orthodox Christmas day, with Djokovic giving a holiday shout-out to the masses of Serb fans in the stands.

The 35-year-old won his 33rd straight match in Australia – the bulk of that number comprising Australian Open titles (nine).

He will bid to keep his Aussie victory run alive on Sunday when he plays for the title against Sebastian Korda.

The American advanced to the final when Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka could not go on and handed over a 7-6(5), 1-0 win to the son of a former Australian Open champion

Djokovic and Korda, 13 years his junior, have never played.
