No. 1 Swiatek won’t put up with tennis travel hell

Iga Swiatek has confirmed she will not play the BJK King Cup in Glasgow in November due to the stress of travelling from the WTA Finals Fort Worth, Texas.

The world No. 1 and double Roland Garros champion has put her foot down over what she considers unacceptable travel demands made on top players.

The 21-year-old Pole let rip in a social media post, pointing out the potential harm of such quick turnarounds.

THE WTA Finals end on Monday November 7, with the BJK King group tie between Poland and the US due to be played Wednesday evening.

Swiatek said to count her out:

”I will not be able to play the Billie Jean King Cup in Glasgow. And it makes me sad,” she posted.

“I’m very sorry because I play for Poland whenever it’s possible and I always give it my best.

“I’m disappointed that tennis governing bodies didn’t come to an agreement on something as basic as the calendar of tournaments, giving us only one day to travel through the globe and changing the time zone.

“The situation is not safe for our health and could cause injury.”

The No. 1 said she is prepared to take action.

“I’m going to talk to the WTA and ITF in order to change something.

This situation is difficult not only for the players, but mainly for the tennis fans that support our sport.”
