Former finalist Kei Nishikori of Japan on Wednesday was forced to withdraw from the US Open after a pair of positive tests for COVID-19.

Asia’s Florida-based top player gave an indication that he might not be able to play by revealing a first positive test for the virus, which was  confirmed late last week by a second test.

Nishikori finished runner-up in 2014 to Croat Marin Cilic in the New York final.
