Nadal ready to tackle Turin despite Bercy battering

Rafael Nadal said on Thursday he will be ready to travel to Turin for the ATP Finals starting November 13 “if nothing happens.”

The Spaniard was sent packing from his first match since the US Open two months ago, losing in the Paris Masters second round to American Tommy Paul 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-1.

“If nothing happens, I hope to be there,” the ATP No. 2 said, referring to any injury dramas.

“I’m excited about playing, even if it hasn’t been the perfect couple of months for me (due to an abdominal injury).

“But I have nothing to lose.. just going there, trying my best.”

The 36-year-old admitted he’s feeling the effects of a long layoff after going out in the Open fourth round in early September.

“I need days on the Tour, for the last five months I didn’t spend enough (match) days. Practising with the guys. That’s what I need.

“I just want to give myself a chance to enjoy another Finals. You never know when it will be the last one – especially at my age.”

The new father added: “I need to put everything in perspective; I need to be healthy enough to spend days on the Tour. That’s it.”
