Rafael Nadal confirmed that Spanish doctors have agreed with their Australian colleagues on his hip injury and the 35-year-old will need up to eight weeks to fully heal.
Nadal posted the news on social media Thursday after visiting a clinic in Madrid; he was diagnosed in both countries with a muscle tear which won’t need surgery.
.“Today, I was at the Teknon Tennis Clinic in Barcelona where they tested me,” wrote Nadal Thursday on Twitter.
“They confirmed the results from Melbourne and the recovery stages are still the same.”
Nadal suffered his injury in his second round Australian Open match last week against American Mackenzie McDonald, losing in straight sets.
He will now point towards the spring clay season and appears all but certain to miss the Masters 1000 hardcourt pair at Indian wells and Miami in the US in March.
