Mystery illness hits US Open

A mystery illness is wreaking havoc on the US Open in New York with many players unwell and some withdrawing from the event.

Former world No.3 Dominic Thiem was forced to retire from his second round match against Ben Shelton with abdominal pain after he was sick and throwing up before the match started.

American Chris Eubanks also struggled with an illness during his second-round loss to France’s Benjamin Bonzi and Finland’s Emil Ruusuvuori was also ruled out because of sickness.

Tunisian Ons Jabeur struggled through her first round match against Colombia’s Camila Osorio, coughing and looking unwell.
