Andy Murray may have inadvertently given the game away on his retirement plans, with the Scot accidentally dropping a tantalising hint after advancing on Monday at the ATP Dubai event.
The 36-year-old who stopped Denis Shapovalov 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-3 to reach the second round, suggested that he could be living “the last few months” of his career.
“It’s clear that I still love to compete and that I still love this sport,” he said in the on-court interview.
“But yes, it’s getting more and more complicated to compete with the younger guys and keep your body in shape, fresh.
“It’s not easy, I probably don’t have much left, but I’m going to do the best I can in these last few months.”
The No. 67 won his second match this season as he put out Canadian Shapovalov.
