Andy Murray continued to make slow, steady comeback progress, with the Scot reaching his second quarter-final of the season on Wednesday, at the Stockholm Open.
The former No. 1 beat top seed Jannik Sinner 7-6(4), 6-3, taking more than an hour to play each set; he now lines up against Tommy Paul, who beat American compatriot Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-4.
Murray completed a British double on the days after Dan Evans also advanced to the last eight in the capital with his 7-6(5), 6-2 win over Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
Murray followed up his win over the ATP No. 10 after reaching his only other quarter of 2021 when he beat Hubert Hurkacz in Vienna last month.
“It’s probably my best win this season,” Murray said. “I want to keep it going now”
“If I want to move back up the rankings and have good runs in tournaments I have to win these matches.”
