Mystery surrounds the withdrawal of Andy Murray on the weekend before the ATP Antwerp event.

The 35-year-old former No. 1 announced he would not play in the tournament where he won the last of his 46 career titles exactly three years ago in the pre-COVID era.

The surprise pullout took place with no warning, with the three-time Grand Slam champion to be replaced in the field by a lucky loser from qualifying.

The 46th-ranked Murray’s last outing was a heartbreak quarter-final loss last Friday to Sebastien Korda in Gijon.
