Patrick Mouratoglou may just be auditioning to become the next coach of Emma Raducanu, with the Frenchman dispensing some free advice to Britain’s former US open winner.
Raducanu has scythed through five coaches in the more than two years since she won the 2021 US Open from an unprecedented qualifying start.
The Londoner who now ranks a distant 299th in the world after undergoing 2023 surgeries on a knee and both wrists, is due to make a belated return to the court in Auckland to start next season.
But the French coach who has worked most recently with Holger Rune after guiding Serena Williams among others, has apparently offered his thoughts on a comeback plan.
“I know that Raducanu will return, which is great news for British tennis,” he told Sky Sports.
” “I understand that it is not easy to trust someone, but that is also what marks the career of players.”They have the ability to stick with people they believe in, a project they believe in, and not change when something is wrong because it’s a marathon.
“You have to accept that during a marathon you have ups and downs and every time you have a small downturn you get rid of people, you can’t reach the finish line in one day.”
The veteran coach added: “Emma has suffered a lot both in results and injuries, I hope she can find some stability… without that she can’t reach her potential, and that would be sad.
“Hopefully she can stay injury free at the start of the season and can find someone to help her fall in love with the game again.”
