Novak Djokovic may no longer be the unbreakable monster of tennis, with French coach Patrick Mouratoglou hinting that the Serb’s fear factor for opponent could be slipping.
The 23 time Grand Slam champion has already pulled the plug on the Toronto Masters starting in early August, a date less than a month after Djokovic lost the Wimbledon final to Carlos Alcaraz.
The gadfly mentor who has popped up in high-profile player boxes supporting Serena Williams, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Coco Gauff among others, believes that the 36-year-old Djokovic is no longer invincible and is playing in fear to preserve his status as a legend.
“He’s in a situation where he’s very winnable in this kind of matchup because of the weight of history he’s carrying on his shoulders,” the Frenchman said,
“Being the big favorite and always playing for unimaginable records is taking a toll on him mentally and in the end, it has to be a burden.
“I get the feeling Djokovic can play much better than he did in the Wimbledon final.”
