More Murray misery in Marseille

Andy Murray has yet to win a match in 2024 and has failed to win a match on the ATP tour since October 2023, going down 7-5 6-4  to Czech Tomas Machac at the Open 13 in Marseille.

This was his fourth match of the season and his search for a first win  in 2024 goes on.

Earlier this year, Murray admitted this season could be his last on the ATP tour if he is “not enjoying it”  but last week responded to criticism on X by vowing “I won’t quit”

However he is yet to find any consistent form as retirement fears continue to grow.

Murray climbed his way back from 3-1 down in the first set and actually led 5-4, but was unable to complete the comeback and went down 7-5.

Machac’s big serve saw the world No. 66 take the opening set in 52 minutes in the first-ever meeting between the pair

The 36 year old Scot would have been desperate to avoid going 0-4 in 2024, but was broken early in the second set and cut a sad figure despite his many supporters in France cheering him on.

The three-time Grand Slam champion is planning to take two weeks off before his next tournament at the Qatar Open in Doha in the week beginning February 19.
