With three of the four Grand Slams of the year completed, here’s our list to top earners for 2019 – in both the mens and womens events…
1. Novak Djokovic
Winnings: $8,911,411
Djokovic has dominated again in 2019, playing in 16 events, and racking up 12,415 points. The Wimbledon final against Federer showed he is still the No.1 player in the world.
2. Rafael Nadal
Winnings: $7,027,843
Nadal hasn’t had a bad year. Wimbledon semis and French Open champion. He has played in 16 events and accumulated 7,945 points.
3. Roger Federer
Winnings: $5,751,008
At the age of 37, Roger Federer is still amazingly up there at the top. With 16 events played, and 7,460 points accumulated, he is giving all his leading opponents a real run for their money – and there is no sign of him dropping form.
4. Dominic Thiem
Winnings: $4,065,446
Thiem is not quite there in terms of who’s who in tennis, but the 25-year-old Austrian is on the verge of making into the ‘big three club’. Despite no majors, he is still accruing winnings so far this year and he ranks fourth, with 4,595 points.
5. Stefanos Tsitsipas
Winnings: $3,003,707
A surprise package, the 20-year-old Greek is beginning to make some noise. Despite struggling at Wimbledon, he has accumulated 4,045 points. A lack of experience has shown in Majors but it won’t be long before he cracks the big time.
6. Fabio Fognini
Winnings: $1,979,737
The 32-year-old Italian is now considered a veteran of the game, and is still a consistent performer, with 2,785 points this season.
7. Roberto Bautista Agut
Winnings: $1,934,951
The 31-year-old Spaniard has played in 23 tournaments this year and amassed 2,320 points, and is ranked 13 in the ATP rankings.
8. Kei Nishikori
Winnings: $1,934,294
Nishikori is ranked 7th in the ATP rankings, with 4,040 points this season. The 29-year-old Japanese star has played in 22 tournaments.
9. Daniil Medvedev
Winnings: $1,623,386
Keep an eye on this Russian. He has has been quietly driving up his numbers. He’s in 26 tournaments this year and, at 23, has age on his side. Medvedev is ranked 10th in the ATP, and has 2,625 points.
10. Alexander Zverev
Winnings: $1,582,472
High ranking but low earner – that’s Alexander Zverev. He is ranked 5th in the world behind Dominic Thiem. He has played 24 tournaments, and accumulated 4,325 points.
In the women’s game it’s more unpredictable – and say, many, more exciting. From one slam to the next. we are not sure who is going to win.
1. Ashleigh Barty
Winnings: $5,362,865
The winner of the French Open Barty, at 23 is one of the young stars of the game. She’s No.1 in the world with 6,605 points. Will she stay there? She has the talent women’s tennis is so unpredictable.
2. Simona Halep
Winnings: $5,083,227
Halep has played in 17 tournaments, and accumulated 5,933 points in 2019. The winner of Wimbledon, she is on high and a firm favourite for the US Open.
3. Naomi Osaka
Winnings: $3,795,402
Osaka, 21, has played in 18 tournaments, earning 6,257 points this season. She has drifted off the pace after a superb 2018 and Melbourne triumph, but there’s little between the top players so could easily bounce back.
4. Karolina Pliskova
Winnings: $3,110,784
Pliskova has played in 22 tournaments, with 6,055 points for the season, but look at how close all these players are in the ranking.
5. Petra Kvitova
Winnings: $2,795,135
Kvitova is ranked 6th in the world, but is top 5 when it comes to winnings. Maybe she picks the tournaments better. At 29, she’s considered a veteran and has played in 19 tournaments in 2019.
6. Kiki Bertens
Winnings: $2,401,454
Ranked 5th in the world, the 27-year-old has played in 25 tournaments to put together her 5,130 points for the season. Injuries though, have limited her success in the majors.
7. Serena Williams
Winnings: $2,148,795
OK so Serena went down to Halep in the Wimbledon final, but she is still a major drawcard. She has only played in 12 tournaments in total, with 3,411 points for the season, but she hasn’t wasted any of them. Still ranked in the top ten in the world.
8. Marketa Vondrousova
Winnings: $2,062,225
A good season financially, as she is only ranked 16. The left hander, at 20, has much to offer and is definitely one for the future. She has played in 14 tournaments in 2019 with 2,762 points.
9. Elina Svitolina
Winnings: $1,900,961
Ukrainian Svitolina has played in 19 tournaments this year and has accumulated 4,638 points this season. Always a ‘dark horse’ contender at the majors.
10. Barbora Strycova
Winnings: $1,861,057
An amazing story in 2019. The 33-year-old is 10th on the money list but ranked at No.32. And after 16 years on the pro circuit she is still up there. She has played in 23 events this year.
