Andy Murray’s determination to regain his Top 10 skills in singles may kill off any crowd-pleasing Wimbledon doubles dreams with Emma Raducanu.
Punters at Wimbledon beginning in three weeks would be thrilled at a pairing of the country’s pair of Grand Slam darlings.
But Murray, the 68th-ranked tennis realist, poured cold water on the pairing – save one particular circumstance.
“Only if the singles don’t work out,” the 35-year-old said on Monday prior to his start this week on grass in Stuttgart.”British tennis fans would enjoy that but I don’t know if it;s going to happen.
“It’s tough for me to just play the singles right now,” said the veteran of two hip operations and a five-year battle to return to his best form.
Murray said the pair had considered Wimbledon doubles last summer, but that plans was scrapped.
“I was going into Wimbledon without much preparation and didn’t have many expectations.
“She was pretty new on the Tour – it didn’t happen. I reached the fourth round, she the third.”
