Daniil Medvedev has given the delayed Australian Open the thumbs up, saying it was the only way the event could happen.

Medvedev told Russia’s Sport Express newspaper he approved of the special health measures in place in Melbourne.

“It was proper to postpone the tournament as the only possible choice taking into account the difficult health situation in the world,” he said on Saturday from Moscow.

“The situation in the world is still very complicated to date. Many families are suffering because of this virus.

“Luckily, the pandemic will be defeated by everyone’s efforts.”

Medvedev confirmed he will start 2021 competing at the ATP Cup for Russia alongside Andrey Rublev.
