Daniil Mevedev will put an unblemished 4-0 series record on the line on Friday when he takes on Felix Auger-Aliassime in a quarter-final at the ATP Rotterdam tournament.
The former No. 1 whose ranking has fallen to 11th will play his opponent for a fifth time in a series where he battled from two sets to love down in their last meeting 13 months ago at the Australian Open for his fourth win in a row against the Canadian.
Medvedev booked his place in the Dutch last eight as he beat local Botic van de Zandschulp 6-2, 6-2, saving six break points.
Defending champion FAA, seeded third, advanced past French qualifier Gregoire Barrere, 6-4, 6-3 with nine aces in the 84-minutes success.
Medvedev is braced for a struggle: “Felix is a top player. He won here last year and played amazing at the end of last year.
“I’m looking forward to a tough match – hopefully I can be at my best.
“He’s going to take his opportunities. He’s going to go for it when he has the chance.”
Australian Alex de Minaur followed up on his upset of second seed Andrey Rublev by defeating French-born American Maxime Cressy 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, helped by his opponent’s 33 unforced errors.
