Medvedev, Swiatek top seeds in Canada

Daniil Medvedev and Iga Swiatek have been has been named top seeds for the National Bank Open men’s and women’s events in Montreal and Toronto.

Other seeded players for the men’s tournament include Rafael Nadal at No.2, third-seed Carlos Alcaraz, and fourth-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Novak Djokovic has been seeded fifth, but he is unlikely to play because of Canada’s COIVD-19 vaccine requirements.

Home town favourite Félix Auger-Aliassime has been seeded No. 8.

In the women’s event, after Swiatek, Anett Kontaveit, world No. 3 Maria Sakkari, 2021 Indian Wells champion Paula Badosa and Madrid Open champion Ons Jabeur round out the top 5.

Canadian Leylah Fernandez, who has not played since injuring her foot in Paris in May, is seeded 13th.
