Medvedev stretches win streak to 10

Daniil Medvedev won his 10th match on the trot with a 6-4, 6-2 defeat of Italian lucky loser Matteo Arnaldi on Tuesday in Dubai.

The ATP No. 7 is bidding for his third title in a row after trophies in Rotterdam and Doha.

The 2021 US Open winner has a mixed record at the Aviation Club  but is now level 2-2 at the venue.

Victory in 91 minutes marked his 15th of the season against losses in the Australian Open third round and the semi-finals of Adelaide last month.

Medvedev secured the opening set with a break of his 111th-ranked opponent but picked up the pace to roll through the second set for the straightforward victory.

“It’s never easy to play someone for the first time,” the winner said. “I didn’t know how he was going to play

“It was not easy but I got better in the second set.”

Medvedev next takes on Alexander Bublik for a quarter-final spot and is hoping to continue his red-hot form

“Tennis is not easy, every week is a new one, no matter what you’ve done before.

“Winning tournaments before help. I’m feeling strong and happy to win my first match.”
