Top seed Daniil Medvedev doubled up on his domination of Ilya Ivashka on Thursday at the Halle grass tournament with a repeat victory less than a week after his last against the No. 42.

World No. 1 Medvedev dispatched his opponent in the quarter-finals last week in the Netherlands, going on to reach the final where he lost to a Dutch wild card outsider.

Medvedev’s 7-6(4), 6-3 second-round win here featured 10 aces and saves on all six break points faced.

“He had a lot of bad luck with injuries at the beginning of the season. At the end of last season he was playing really great tennis,”Medvedev said.

“I’ve known him since I was very young, we played in Futures, Challengers, and on the ATP Tour.

“He knows how to play tennis, he knows how to play well on grass, so I’m really happy that two times in a row I managed to pass a tough test.”

Medvedev, who’s best Wimbledon showing was the fourth round a year ago, improved to 30-15 on grass lifetime.

“My goal is every time I go on the court just to be the best player possible, and if my opponent wins, congrats, and let’s go for the next one,” he said.
