Medvedev dodges NY pressure thanks to Djokovic, Alcaraz

Daniel Medvedev is more than happy to stay out of the white heat of the US Open spotlight as the final Grand Slam of the season starts on Monday.

The 2021 champion at Flushing Meadows goes in as third seed with the young Spaniard and the veteran Serb sucking most of the air out of the room in the run-up to the major.

With that pair level at two wins each and taking the top two seedings, Medvedev is left conveniently out of the trash-talking mix.

That’s fine by the 27-year-old, who confessed on Friday that he can only take the chaos of gritty Gotham in relatively small doses.

“I feel like it’s a great city, electric city. But  don’t know how it is to live here,’ he said.

“I feel this city can take your energy if you stay here for too long…. to be here three weeks, one month, is super fun.”

Medvedev is happy to stand on the sidelines as talk builds of another Alcaraz-Djokovic final, the last edition of which was won by Djokovic last weekend in Cincinnati.

“It’s great for tennis that we have these two guys playing each other right now.

But we’re going to try to beat them and stop them from playing each other.

“it’s normal that we talk about them.. I do think we still talk about me.

“The goal is, after this US Open, that we talk about me, so I’m going to try to do it (win a second title).”
