Magnus and Stan get the band together again

Stan Wawrinka is back with Swede Magnus Norman as coach, with the Swiss  scoring a debut success in the first round of the ATP Basel 500 event.

The old stagers who worked together from 2013 to 2020 are hoping to re-create the winning past on court for the 37-year-old Wawrinka, who won 16 titles under the tutelage of his Swedish Mentor, 46.

The pairing will go full throttle into 2023, according to Wawrinka, who lifted all three of his Grand Slam titles with Norman in the driving seat.

“We want to finish writing our story together,” Wawrinak said after upsetting second seed Casper Ruud 6-4, 6-4 at the Swiss Indoors.

“After the US Open I decided to stop working with (former Andy Murray coach) Dani Vallverdú and bring Magnus back.

“He’s the person who knows my game best, the one who has helped me the most in my career.”

Added Wawrinka: “We want to find the perfect balance; he will be with me in preseason and will travel to the most important tournaments next season.”
