Mac keeping his distance from the Open due to COVID test

Tennis motormouth John McEnroe has been missing from the US Open after revealing he has tested positive for COVID.

The former ace and Long Island native who seemingly cannot be avoided on TV screens during the New York Grand Slam fortnight explained his unusual absence in an ESPN statement:

.“Unfortunately, after feeling a bit under the weather, I tested positive for Covid,” the 64-year-old said.

“I’m watching the US Open from home and can’t wait to get back to work soon.”

Mac was also missing during coverage of January’s Australian Open, with the Nine Network choosing not to fly him out to work as part of the coverage team.

As a result, he worked that major for Eurosport.

His return to the commentary booth before the Open wraps up a week from Sunday remains unknown.
