Aussie bad boy Nick Kyrgios comfortably beat Liam Broady 6-4 6-4 6-3 to set up a second round meeting with Daniil Medvedev on Tuesday night.
The world No. 115 was in entertaining form despite still feeling the effects of the covid virus.
“I was bedridden. I was sleeping 17 hours a day.” He said.
“I had some doubts, a lot of messages (asking) if I was going to play, but I just couldn’t ask for a better team.”
“The last week has been tough, I did isolation, my girlfriend was there and I was lucky enough to have a tennis court just to hit some serves.
“Obviously I served f***ing well today.”
Kyrgios had fans applauding as he fired an underarm tweener serve.
Then the British ATP Cup captain was encouraged to do the same as a fan shouted: “Underarm Liam,” while he was serving at 0-2 down.
Broady pretended to serve underarm, throwing his opponent off as he and Kyrgios laughed about it, and the Aussie responded with a fake underarm serve of his own in the next game.
Kyrgios hit six aces in his first two service games and landed 81 per cent of first serves as he dominated the match.
