Publicity hound Nick Kyrgios has widened the scope of his sledging match with legend Boris Becker as the Aussie claims he’s the biggest drawcard ever to grace the court.
The injured tennis bad boy who has not played for a year and with few prospects of returning to the ATP after losing his ranking, took a jab at the six-time Grand Slam champion German online.
The flaming response was in reply to Becker’s admonishment that the greats of the 1980s paved the way for the mega-paid players of the current era.
After copping previous heat from the loudmouthed Aussie, Becker tried to set the historical record straight:
“It’s simple, you have to respect the past of our sport, in addition to publicly thanking the former players,” the current coach of Holger Rune posted.
“You must be grateful that they existed: without them, the tennis circus would not continue to exist, there have never been so many monetary prizes and there has never been as much publicity as there is today. Why? For the legends of this sport
“All these players made it possible for Nick Kyrgios not to play tennis all year round and that, even so, he can make a living with this sport.”
The cranky Canberra attention-seeker, who featured in a Netflix tennis fly-on-the-wall episode last season, was quick to fire back with a sledge:
Bro what 😂😂😂 I’ve been one of the FEW PLAYERS that have brought million more fans to the sport and have made more money for everyone 😂 NETFLIX…. Don’t remember seeing Boris on there 😂 guy is ridiculous. I’ve made my career off the court without the help of the others.”
