Kyrgios to kick on with return to Stuttgart

Nick Kyrgios is set for a return to tennis after last touching a racquet at the ATP level eight months ago.

The controversial Australian is seeded eighth at the ATP Boss event in Germanys’ car-making capital, starting in the first round against Wu Yibing of China on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old played his last Tour match in the Tokyo second round in October before handing in a walkover in the quarter-finals.

He turned up for a mega-payday in Saudi Arabia in December but had to withdraw before the Australian Open first round before undergoing a knee procedure.

The 2022 Wimbledon finalist said this weekend that he’s glad to be back.

“This year has been tough for me recovering from knee surgery. It was not major but I had quite a serious surgery.

“It’s taken me five months to get back to even playing and moving again.”

Kyrgos called the annual grass campaign “the best part of the year,” and said he chose to make his return in Stuttgart for a reason.

“I’m coming back at a tournament where I’ve done well in the past. I’ve played some amazing matches here and the crowd is always really supportive.

“I’m super-excited to be here again. I’m looking forward to playing the sport that I’ve been working so hard to get back to.”
