Kyrgios sledges Ruud after upset win

Nick Kyrgios took aim at his opponent on and off the court at Indian Wells on Monday night after he despatched Casper Ruud in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

The pair have history, clashing in Rome in 2019 when Kyrgios threw a chair on the court, as Ruud then called him out and labelled him an “idiot”.

After this comprehensive win, it was Kyrgios’ turn to fire up.

“I hear no talking now, none. F****g none … nothing,” Kyrgios said, staring straight at the camera.

It took Kyrgios just 76 minutes to win the match as he broke his opponent early in both sets.

Kyrgios will next face Italian No.10 Jannik Sinner.

Canada’s Denis Shapovalov saw his Indian Wells challenge falter on Monday as he was dumped in the third round of the BNP Paribas Open 7-6 (4), 6-4, 6-4 by American Reilly Opelka.

Spanish teenager Carlos Alcaraz defeated countryman and 15th-seeded Roberto Bautista Agut 6-2, 6-0 and will next play Gael Monfils.
