Kyrgios sets sights on grass court return

Aussie firebrand Nick Kyrgios has set his sights on a return to the ATP tour when the grass court season begins in June.

Kyrgios last played a singles match since in February at the Australian Open when he was beaten by Dominic Thiem.

Kyrgios has given the clay court season a miss to spend more time with family in Canberra, but has been training to ensure when he does return he will be ready for the challenge.

Clay is one of his least favoured surfaces – he hasn’t played Roland Garros since 2017.

Kyrgios, 25, is reported to be targeting Stuttgart in early June for a return to action.

The player has spoken about his lack of desire to play at events without crowds becuae of the covid pandemic.

“I don’t know how I’ll [play if I] have to quarantine overseas in tournaments,” he said.

“For me personally, man, I’m used to playing in front of packed stadiums.”
