Nick Kyrgios has been ordered to face a court in Australia after allegedly assaulting a former girlfriend last year.
The world No.40, who is preparing to play Cristian Garin in a Wimbledon quarter-final, is due to appear in court next month.
“ACT Police can confirm a 27-year-old Watson man is scheduled to face the ACT Magistrates Court on the 2nd of August in relation to one charge of common assault following an incident in December 2021,” Canberra police said today.
Lawyer Jason Moffett confirmed his client was aware of the charge, which carries a maximum sentence of two years jail if convicted and relates to an allegation Kyrgios assaulted former partner Chiara Passari.
“The nature of the allegation is serious, and Mr Kyrgios takes the allegation very seriously,” Mr Moffett said
