Kyrgios Canberra court date postponed

Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios will not be required to front up in court next week in Canberra on a domestic assault charge after a postponement in his court date.

The Australian, currently playing doubles in Atlanta and due to compete next week in an ATP event in Washington, will now have three weeks of grace – timing which could be problematic if he manages to make a deep run at the US Open which begins on August 29.

He had been due to appear on Tuesday in court on what local media said was a common assault charge in relation to an incident in December 2021 with former girlfriend Chiara Passari.

With a possible jail term of two years, the situation is no joke.

The postponed court session set for August 23 – during the week prior to the Open start – will not require the physical presence of Kyrgios, only his attorney, according to Australia’s Age.
