Kontaveit through in straight sets over Siniakova

Rising star Anett Kontaveit started her 2022 Grand Slam season with a win in Melbourne, defeating Czech Katerina Siniakova 6-2, 6-3.

No. 6 ranked Kontaveit got off to a slow start before winning four consecutive games to take the opening set.

The second set went to 2-2 before the Estonian won three straight games and then traded games to close out the match in 82 minutes.

Kontaveit said in her post-match interview she was pleased to get a victory and will face the winner of Clara Tauson – Astra Sharma in the second round.
