Estonian Anett Kontaveit will challenge 2017 Roland Garros winner Jelena Ostapenko in an Balkan battle for Saturday’s title at the Eastbourne Championships.

The pair of Northern Europeans waited out several hours of rain delays to get their semi-finals done and dusted Friday on the lawns at Devonshire Park at the joint ATP-WTA tournament.

Wild card Ostapenko had to work to overcome Elena Rybakina 6-4, 6-1 while Kontaveit advanced with minimal effort when qualifying opponent Camila Giorgi retired trailing 5-4 with a left thigh injury.

Kontaveit owns their only Tour win, at the 2018 Australian Open.

The 43rd-ranked Ostapenko finished dead-level on 38 winners and t30  unforced errors – with no double-faults as she moved to her ninth career final

Kontaveit has tasted success in just one of her seven WTA finals, winning in the Netherlands, 2017.
