This week’s Dubai WTA 500 event lost a top draw card as Tunisian Ons Jabeur withdrew on Sunday with the chronic knee problem which has compromised the start of her 2024 season.
The highest profile Arab player on the Tour reached the quarter-finals in the emirate two years ago, losing to Simona Halep.
Jabeur, who has played the event eight times, has managed only five matches since the start of 2024, losing three of them.
“Dear friends and family, I wanted to share with you all that my knee is not holding, it’s been unbearable to play with the pain and not being able to give my best on the court is frustrating,” she said in a statement.
“After consultation of my doctors and team we have decided that I will have to withdraw from Dubai this week and go for more medical treatments.
“Looking forward to re-connect with all on the courts for the US (march) swing. Thank you for your continuous support. Love you, Ons.”
