Kanepi powers way to quarterfinals

Estonia’s Kaia Kanepi continued her good form at the Australian Open warm-up events today with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Russian Darya Kasatkina in an hour and 17 minutes.

Kanepi saved three breaks in two of her serve games in the opening set, and urged ahead to take the advantage.

She then dropped three games to tie the set at 5-5 before winning her next two.

The Estonian powerhouse then upped the tempo in the second set, winning five straight games that set her up for the match.

Kanepi will meet Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic next. Muchova defeated Italian jasmine Paolini in three sets in the third round.
