Tunisian Ons Jabeur’s reputation continues to grow after she beat 2017 Roland Garros champion Jelena Ostapenko 6-4, 6-4 in Ostrava overnight.
“To be able to keep myself calm in the match, especially knowing that I had so many opportunities, especially in the first set, especially I am proud of today,” Jabeur said.
“It was a tricky game. We were not winning our serves, which was kind of difficult, and I had to break each time.
“When I won my serve at 5-4, this is my chance, I have to win now. I thought I was serving good, but she was returning really well.
“It’s the end of the season, a difficult year, so I am always trying to find my motivation during this tournament.”
Jabeur hit 27 winners to 23 unforced errors compared to Ostapenko’s ratio of 8 winners to 28 unforced errors.
