Insecure Emma puts the boot into retired Andy

Emma Raducanu has dismissed retired British trailblazer Andy Murray as “old news” as the former US Open winner’s feud with the champion’s family heats up.

The 21-year-old’s claim to fame came in 2021 when she won the Open from a qualifying start; but since then her career has been plagued by injuries, coaching changes and a general decline.

The Briton got into a brief online slanging match with Judy Murray as result of Raducanu’s sudden withdrawal from her intended Wimbledon mixed doubles partnerships with Andy, who retired during the Paris Olympics..

“No it doesn’t feel different (without Andy) at all,” Raducanu said in the US Open run-up.

“Tennis is unforgiving in that sense. No matter who you are, it just moves on. There is always another match, there is always another tournament.”

The London youngster added: “Of course Andy has achieved amazing things and I watched him win this tournament but it is a fast pace, just like life is.

“It’s old news the next day kind of thing.

“I think the Brits are all kinda pushing each other, we are all competitive. You see other ones doing well and you want to do the same.”

Raducanu has skipped almost all of the Open prep season, playing only three matches since the Wimbledon fourth round and getting to the last eight n hardcourt last month in Washington.

She opted out of the Olympics and did not bother to enter qualifying rounds at this month’s Masters pair in Toronto and Cincinnati.

The Brit is not about to forget her one-off achievement three years ago at Flushing Meadows.

“I feel a lot better coming back, Walking past my photo every day. Walking past my name on the trophy every day. I come back now with such a different outlook.

“Just joy and pride and it inspires me to want to do more.”

She begins in the first round against 2020 Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin, a first-time meeting.
