A French Open thigh injury will keep Alexander Zverev from starting his grass court season on Monday at the ATP Stuttgart event.

The No. 27 who is still trying to recover his game after a Paris ankle injury a year ago,  was thrashed in Friday’s Roland Garros semi-finals 6-3, 6-4, 6-0 by Casper Ruud.

Germany’s Zverev last competed in Stuttgart in 2019, losing in the second round to Dustin Brown.

“I would have loved to play in Stuttgart, but unfortunately my physical condition doesn’t allow it now,” Zverev said in Paris.

“I was really looking forward to the tournament and the special atmosphere at Weissenhof (club).”

Zverev will be replaced in the draw by 41-year-old Spaniard Feliciano Lopez, who was originally signed into weekend qualifying rounds.
