Any predictions on a possible golden Slam for Novak Djokovic following his five-set French Open comeback final over Stefanos Tsitsipas are nothing but premature to the cautions Serb.
Djokovic has won both Grand Slams played so far this season, with Wimbledon starting in a fortnight and the Olympic tournament in late July also in the mix.
The only other player to win all four majors plus the Games gold in a single season was Steffi Graf in 1988 Seoul.
Team Djoko seems to be steering well clear of undue optimism.
“Everything is possible, and I did put myself in a good position to go for the Golden Slam,” the ATP No. 1 said after his weekend Paris success.
“But I was in this position in 2016 and it ended with a third-round loss in Wimbledon.
“This year we have only two weeks between the first round of Wimbledon and the finals here, which is not ideal because you go from two completely different surfaces.
“I will enjoy this win and then think about Wimbledon in a few days’ time.”
The five-time champion who will be defending the title he won at the last edition in 2019 is counting himself in for the title mix.
“I’m happy to know that we are going to play Wimbledon this year. I’ve had great success in the last couple that I’ve played – hopefully I can keep that run going.
“I like the grass and over the years I’ve improved on grass, Hopefully I can use this confidence that I have right now at Wimbledon, as well.”
