I can beat top players, says confident Murray

Andy Murray believes he can beat some of the best players on tour after his 6-3, 6-2 win over Denis Kudla in San Diego.

“The US Open was sort of the start of where I played a bit better and I just need to start beating some higher-ranked players,” Murray said.

“I´ve had opportunities in those matches against the top players I´ve played.

“I think I can beat them. I just need to start converting some of my opportunities against them and I get an opportunity on Thursday to do that against (casper) Ruud.”

Murray, who has accepted a wild card into the Vienna Open later this month, said his goal was to get back into the top 100.

“I want to get back into the top 100 – (that) would be more something that would motivate me in terms of the goal.

“Winning is what sport is all about, and if you can play great whilst doing that even better. But if you can’t, and you don’t play your best, then winning is a great feeling. That’s why I am still playing.”

Murray is currently ranked 109th and faces a tough second-round match against Norwegian Casper Ruud, the world No 10, tomorrow.
