Simona Halep is dialling down the pressure as the 2022 season begins, with the former Wimbledon winner planning to cut herself some slack for the upcoming WTA campaign.

The 30-year-old Romanian is looking for a comeback after missing months of the previous season through injury; she won three titles in 2020 but came up empty-handed in 2021.

“At this stage of my life I see tennis differently, I take it as a joy, much more relaxed,” the No. 20 said.

“I don’t push myself so much, so I will try to transfer it to the matches, which is not easy.

“I still have the opportunity to win big titles, but I don’t think about that anymore, not as much as I did in the past.

“Everything that comes now will be an extra, I’m trying to enjoy and not think so much about results,” she said prior to her start at the Melbourne 250 event.
