Giorgi win sets up clash with Kenin

Camila Giorgi beat French teenager Clara Burel in first-round action on Monday, 6-4, 6-3, to set up an intriguing clash with Sofia Kenin at the Yarra Valley Classic tomorrow.

Kenin and Giorgi, 29, have never played, but the World No.4 will be bidding for an eighth consecutive victory on Australian soil when they walk out at Melbourne Park.

Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova had little trouble beating Japanese Doi 6-1, 6-4, the three-time Australian Open quarterfinalist winning eight of her first one games in just over 30 minutes.

Fellow Russian Nadia Podoroska was also in good form, beating Britain’s Francesca Jones 6-1, 6-3.
