Boris Becker has reportedly dropped eight kg since being banged up in a low-security prison after being found guilty of fraudulent bankruptcy.
German tabloid Bild said the six-time Grand Slam champion who was sent behind bars in April, is also taking full advantage of physical activity options at the Huntercombe facility of Oxfordshire and has a job teaching fitness to his fellow inmates.
He was jailed for 2.5 years but is expected to serve only half of that time under current sentencing laws.
Bild quoted a source who said the 54-year-old has given up drinking – banned, anyway, in prison – and works as an assistant to the prison sports coach as well as teaching yoga and meditation.
The prison features fitness facilities including a climbing wall, astroturf pitch and cardiovascular fitness room.
“As a sportsman, he knows only too well the highs and lows of victories and defeats,” the source told the tabloid. “He is sharing his life experience with his fellow prisoners.”
Huntercombe specialises in detaining non-British prisoners
His German lawyer, Christian-Oliver Moser, told Bild: “Our client, Boris Becker, continues to do well under the circumstances and he has constructively integrated himself into daily prison life.
“He is able to telephone whenever he wants and to communicate with the outside world. “Any further details about his prison stay are subject to protected personal privacy laws.”
