Alexander Zverev’s concentration for Wednesday’s second-round match at the Paris Masters could be patchy after a German judge fined him a massive EUR 450,000 in a domestic violence case.
The ATP No. 9 was sanctioned by a Berlin court for “abuse” against the mother of his child, German model Brenda Patea, for physical abuse.
Zverev’s lawyers have said they will appeal and that the player rejects the accusations of his ex-girlfriend stemming from a 2020 argument.
“The procedure is scandalous, there can be no question of a fair, constitutional procedure,” Zverev’s legal team said in a statement.
“Mr Zverev will take action against this using all means possible.”
The player was cleared by the ATP last January in another domestic abuse case brought by ex Olga Sharypova, a former player.
Her accusation of domestic abuse was not supported by the evidence, the ATP said.
