Coco Gauff has quit the WTA Asian swing carrying an injury she won’t reveal, though informed reports suggest she is carrying a shoulder problem,
The teenaged US Open champion went out in the Beijing semi-finals at the weekend to Iga Swiatek and was treated for a right shoulder injury during a hampered performance.
Gauff refused to specify her injury as she talked completely around the subject, spinning the situation as “job done” despite failing to complete the Asian run.
“One of the goals that I set earlier in the year was for me to do well in the big events, do better on the 1000 level,” the 19-year-old said.
“I accomplished that goal. I’m really proud of myself.”
Gauff added: “I have a lot to improve on, that’s what makes me excited for next year.
“After the WTA Finals (this month in Mexico) I have some more weeks to really practice and improve.
Gauff has since withdrawn from the upcoming WTA date in Zhengzhou,, joining the injured pair of Elena Rybakina and Karolina Muchova.
